Religious folks aren't very intelligent, are they?
The goons of religion don't get it. Speech is different from action. You don't like queers? Fine. You want to express your hatred of homosexuality? Great, have at it. You want to kill or maim or attack them? That's a whole different ball of wax. It is my personal conviction that religion should be outlawed from the public discourse and my First Amendment right allows me to express this. It does not, however, allow me to punch religious people in their faces. Sad, but true.
So hate away, religious person. Be free to be bigoted. Just make sure it stays oral. And if you don't, don't be surprised should the gays better the instruction you give and sock it right back at you.

I'm old.
I remember when the hate crime bill was first introduced in Congress.
I sat in my Church in Salem, Massachusetts while our parish priest read letters from both Senator Edward Brooke (R) and Senator Ted Kennedy (D)urging all Catholics to support this legislation.
It was 1969.
The Church has no objection to hate crimes legislation, so long as it doesn't include sexual orientation or gender identity.
Hypocrites.
Ask them if they are willing to repeal the protection the law affords for hate crimes based on religious bias and they'll sing a different tune.
Where I come from, there is a long history of bias crimes against Irish Catholics.
